Top of the morning to you! Except, it probably isn’t if you play this Betsoft game.
This Charms and Clovers slot from Betsoft is a slot which has been absolutely panned by the online slot community. Of course, this intrigued us.
There are some video slots which others hate which we love. We decided to put this Betsoft game to the test.
It probably goes without saying that Charms and Clover has an Irish theme and if you are thinking that there are too many Irish slots out there right now, then you’d be right. There are.
We are willing to give any slot a fair crack of the whip if it does things uniquely, though.
It just doesn't seem that unique. We loathe the look of the slot. The background music is fantastic and certainly inspired by the Irish.
But we can't quite put our finger on it, the slot looks like a mess. The symbols seem like that they have been over designed. Don't get us started on the smug, little leprechaun that bounces up and down, letting out a hearty chuckle every so often.
This Charms and Clovers slot machine certainly is winning no prizes from us when it comes to the theme of the game – it’s even worse than Leprechaun Hills game and we didn’t rate that very highly.
This means that the rest of the game is going to be an incredibly hard sell.
Open up this game and you’ll notice that there is an additional sixth reel. It is a bit separate from the rest.
This sixth reel plays a roll in triggering the bonus features in the slot, much like in Thunderkick’s Wild Heist slot game.
There are four bonus features. The entire reel needs to be covered in the stacked bonus symbol for each of these features.
The simplest feature is 'Golden Bonus'. Get this, and you will be asked to choose from one of four pots of gold. Pretty stereotypical for an Irish-themed slot.
The money wheel seems to offer the biggest prizes. This is tied into the progressive jackpot, although this progressive online slot never gets that high.
In most cases, you will be walking away with 4x your initial bet when you spin the reels. But can walk away with the Colossal Jackpot (highlighted at all times on the screen) if the game goes your way.
The other two features in this Charms and Clovers video slot, both free spins.
The Mega Symbol will give you 8 free spins. During this bonus round, you will have 3×3 leprechaun symbols added to the reels. They can deliver some nice wins.
The 'Pots of Gold' free spins feature will also give you eight free spins. However, each free spin has the potential to add up to 3 extra wilds to the reels.
You will mostly have one or two, however, most of the time – nothing like the wilds in the Yggdrasil Reptoids slot.
The major problem we have is that this five reel game just does not look good. We know that there are plenty of people out there who do like the design. We appreciate this.
However, for the most part, the game is just not fun to look at, unlike something like a Weekend in Vegas slot.
We also appreciate the fact that there are four bonus rounds in the game; but you are not going to trigger them that often.
This means that you are really lured into the game with the false sense of it being so much more than just mindless spinning of the reels. It, invariably, is not going to be more than that.
95% of your spins will just be bland spins without any excitement.
Sure, it is great when a bonus feature does pop up, but it is over in mere seconds and you are back to the grind, barely winning much more than 5x to 10x your bet.
You could give it a go, but there are far better slots out there.
Slots with features that pop up more often. Slots with a better theme. Slots which are truly enjoyable to play.
Slots like the Vikings Go Wilds slot or Six Acrobats by Microgaming.
