Thor and Hellia will fight it out to win your prayers, but that doesn’t mean they’ll answer.
This Fortune of Asgard slot game has an action-packed theme but is it an action-packed game?
There are a lot of Nordic God slots coming out nowadays.
No doubt down to the fact that the Ancient Nords don't tend to collect licensing fees on their creation, so it is free game for the slot creators. This Fortune of Asgard slot is surprisingly decent, though.
Whenever we write slot reviews, we love to see what the normal folk are saying about the games we are looking at. One player said something like this:
“It looks like Microgaming got an intern to design a slot which would only look good in the 1980s.”
This is a tough critique to respond to, because it is not accurate in the slightest, and yet we can’t ignore all those comments online.
The game does look good. It is not the best work to come from Microgaming, but it is decent enough.
One of our biggest concerns about the game studio Microgaming in recent years is that they are not that fussy about who makes slots. Many of their games are not developed 'in-house' nowadays. Instead, they pay external studios to put together a slot for them.
The Fortunes of Asgard slot machine is one of those games which was outsourced, although you can barely tell from the game that this is the case.
Many of the outsourced games are terrible and give Microgaming a poor reputation, but we don’t think that this is not one of them.
It is clearly a new studio that designed it, though. The loading screens are abysmal, and the slot features are a bit basic.
There does seem to be a lot of action going on at once, though. Not in terms of features, but in the animations and the graphics.
It does make this slot game feel a little bit more engaging than it probably deserves, but then that’s the point of a good theme.
At the start of the game, you will be asked to choose from one of two Gods. Each of them has their own feature, so choose wisely:
Now, this is something that does make the base game of this Fortunes of Asgard video slot a little bit more engaging, but we really can't seem to work out why you have to choose which God you want to represent you.
Why not just roll both these features into one? Neither of them are that lucrative, so it would make more sense.
It just feels like Microgaming are attempting to artificially reduce the chances of a payout on the slot at the expense of having fun.
At least in Lost Vegas slot or in Dream Date game, the choices you made actually still paid out either way.
And who doesn’t love a good bonus free spin round every 100 spins or so?
Both the features highlighted before will be active during your free spins, but still, it’s never quite enough to lift this game from obscurity.
There is also a bonus game. Standard stuff. Three bonus symbols. Choose symbols for cash prizes. Not that thrilling, but money is money.
We doubt that you will activate this feature that much anyway over these 20 paylines.
If you do, you can always use the gamble feature to try and liven up the game.
Fortunes of Asgard has the ability to be a good slot. It really does. The features are fun.
However, for us, the math seems to be a little off with this game. The chances of winning are low in the base game just because of the choice between the two Gods.
Roll those into one Microgaming, and you’d have a hit on your hands. Take a note for the next release, please.
Meanwhile, just stick with the Microgaming classics like Immortal Romance game or Avalon slot. It’s worth remembering why they are good.
