This Yggdrasil Magic Mushrooms slot is unlike any other slot you have seen before, with 20 paylines and pay both way reels.

However, that is to be expected when the whole theme of this online slot game is based around some drug-induced hallucination (we assume?).

Magic Mushrooms is set-up unlike most other slot machines. These are hexagonal rows. The outside two reels are three symbols high, the next two in are four symbols high, and the middle row is five symbols high.

A hexagonal slot that takes some getting use to

For some reason that we can't quite fathom, Magic Mushrooms spins differently to other slots. This does not really tie into the theme of the game, so we have no idea why but it can be a little off-putting. The middle reel will be the last one to stop spinning.

The game pays in both directions but, honestly, this a medium to high volatility slot. Even though you think that you are going to win almost constantly with the game paying in both directions, you probably won't.

In fact, the game doesn't pay out anywhere near as much as we would hope on most day to day spins.

We are not fans of the theme. We feel that it tries too hard to be quirky. Both in terms of the slot layout, and the aesthetic appeal of this Yggdrasil game.

We are positive that there are some people out there who will enjoy the look of this Magic Mushrooms online slot, but we are not those people.

It is too purple for us. The symbols, despite looking unique, just seem far too basic over these 40 paylines.

Once again, we are assuming that the slot is based upon a drug-fueled trip which explains it (somewhat) but still, we would have loved the symbols to look a little bit better. It would have added a lot more to the game.

We are not sure if this is something that we love or hate. It does provide a lot to keep up with:

• Reels 1 and 5: the small purple mushroom is your wild on these reels. Just your standard wild.
• Reels 2 and 4: the bright blue mushroom is your wild. Whenever this appears, little mushrooms will also appear in the vicinity. This will give you a 2x to 10x multiplier.
• Reel 5: pink mushrooms. Up to four extra wilds will be put on the reels whenever this appears.

Multiple wilds are something Yggdrasil games generally have in common just look at the Wild Heist at Peacock Manor slot.

And there are tons of free spins… potentially

One of the oddest things about this slot game is just how slanted the free spins mode are. If you get 3 scatters, you get 10 free spins. If you get four scatters, you get 20 free spins. Sounds normal, right?

Well, if you get 5 scatters, you get a whopping 75 free spins. This is a drastically high number.

It is something that you will probably never score. We can't help but feel that this has been worked into the slot as a selling point, even though a fraction of people will get 75 free spins.

During the bonus round, every time you get 2 scatters on the reels, you will get 2 more free spins.

There is no multiplier in place for this mode, which is a little disappointing, but the wilds really do help you to rack up those wins.
