With 15 paylines, scatters and wilds, this Microgaming slot is simple but fun.
The Major Millions slot is an iconic progressive jackpot machine from Microgaming with wilds and scatter symbols.
When you load up this five reel game, don't expect it to look pretty. It is one of the earliest jackpot video slots from Microgaming, which means that it does look a bit dated.
Despite its ageing look, it has recently been given an HTML5 update for mobile devices, which is a testament to how many people still enjoy playing this online casino game.
This is a very simple slot machine. Microgaming had yet to really start experimenting with their slot features, which means that you won't find any in Major Millions. In fact, all of the action takes place in the base game.
The only thing that you really have to look forward to in Major Millions is hoping to win that progressive which, of course, is going to be incredibly difficult, but worthwhile.
The wild symbol does not appear as frequently as it would do in other slots, although there is a good reason for this. Each time the wild symbol forms part of a winning combination, your wins will be tripled.
To win the progressive jackpot in this game, you need to net yourself five of these wild symbols on the 15th payline. Yes, it is very specific.
We would have loved if there was a separate symbol for the jackpot. It would have given the win a touch more glamour, but we can see why Microgaming went down this route. It keeps things simple.
Other than that, the scatters give you a bit of cash each time they appear on the 5 reels, but there is really nothing else to this. This is to be expected. It is an old progressive slot, even older than the more famous Mega Moolah mobile game.
There is a small amount of excitement when you get those multiplying wilds, especially if you get a 4 or 5 of a kind symbol wins; which are generous in their amount.
Many of the players live for that excitement and it’s enough for them.
It does baffle us, sometimes, as to why people play Major Millions nowadays. Yes. We understand; there is a life-changing sum of cash available, so does Mega Moolah in fact. Or even newer jackpots like Holmes and the Stolen Stones.
But since there are fewer people playing on this game than some of the other progressives it never quite gets to the millions; maybe a few hundreds of thousands at most.
Yes. The bushy moustached Major would have been good 'back in the day', but nowadays it is just an old slot machine with a so-so army theme.
That being said, this video slot is a little bit better than Mega Moolah insofar as the fact that the chances of winning the progressive are not dictated by the amount that you are betting.
You can easily bet the minimum of 0.20 on Major Millions and win the progressive jackpot, whereas if you go for the minimum bet on Mega Moolah, your chances are much smaller. You would rarely win.
We suppose that it’s probably going to be ideal for those who do have a smaller bankroll but fancy getting in on a decent progressive which, despite its age, does have a decent prize pool.
That said, the maximum bet is only $3 a spin, which will leave many high roller feeling a bit cold.
We are in two minds as to whether we can recommend Major Millions online or mobile slot to you.
Obviously, it does have some appeal to players. There is a reason why Microgaming thought it would be worth upgrading their ancient Army themed slot to get it playing at mobile casinos, but there are countless progressives which are more engaging than this.
By all means give it a spin or two. However, we think most of the excitement of this old fashioned slot game comes from nostalgia – it’s not the army theme, the Girls With Guns slot is more exciting than this.
Unless, of course, you like simple 5 reels video slots with no bonus features, big wild multipliers and a jackpot.
Wait… You know what? Maybe we do get the appeal, after all.
