With 3 ways to trigger the free spins, and Vikings battling demons, this is epic in more ways than one.
The Vikings Go To Hell slot is the third in a trilogy of games that dare you to battle the biggest monsters for the biggest wins.
Yep. Another Viking-themed slot from Scandinavian developer Yggdrasil.
But it is the best yet, even if the theme of the game is a little bit confused about its mythology. That said, if you love risky slots with bonus games, then this machine is for you.
The Vikings Go to Hell game is weirdly themed. Not in a bad way, we just have no idea what Yggdrasil were going for here.
Vikings Go to Hell seems to be set in an alternate universe where for some reason, instead of worshipping Norse Gods, the Vikings are terrified of going to hell and dealing with the Abrahamic Lucifer. Well, sort of.
It is not set in an alternate universe, but we have no idea what gave the Vikings a change of heart to the point where they swapped religion. Yeah, it is a minor niggle, but it seems like such a pointless change.
We love the theme of the game other than this. It has the dull and dark look which you would expect from a game set in the bowels of hell.
Don't worry, there is a splash of color here and there, so you don't need to feel like the slot game is too dark and dingy. It is a good balance.
If you are new to the slot world, or do not really fancy something overloaded with slot features, then Vikings Go to Hell is probably not for you.
This is a video slot best enjoyed by experienced players as there is a lot to wrap your head around. Check out Vikings Go Wild slot first, and then maybe Vikings Go Berzerk to see if you happy to go on a ride with these Norsemen and woman.
Couple this with the fact it is a high volatility slot with a whopping house edge of 3.9%, and it is not going to be for those low rollers too. Even though the minimum bet is 0.10 a spin, you could easily blow through your budget if you are not careful.
Whenever you get 2 scatters on the reels, the game will automatically re-spin the five reels. This is nifty enough, but this machine adds a little bit of a twist.
When this happens, all the high paying Viking symbols on the reels will fight some demons (got to escape from hell, right?). If they win the fight, which they do on occasion, they will become sticky wilds.
We love this feature, and this is where we managed to nail most of our wins in the base game. Shame it does not pop up as often as we would like.
This is where things get a little bit confusing, as this is not a feature we have seen in other slots, other than in Vikings Go Berzerk video slot.
One of the main ways to trigger free spins is through a feature called 'rage points'.
You start with 50 rage points, so you are already halfway there. Each sticky wild you get will give you one more rage point. You can earn up to 30 rage points from the treasure chests. It is a good, long slog.
You want to trigger the free spins through the rage points because if you do, the Viking that is in a rage will always turn into a sticky wild. You can get more than one rage Viking at a time, but it’s extremely rare.
You can trigger free spins using scatters too. You can earn up to 16 free spins, although you are more likely to have 7 from collecting just three scatters.
The free spins feature is the same as if you triggered it through your rage points, except the Vikings will battle it out with the demons and only sometimes turn sticky.
There are two levels:
You rarely get to Lucifer, and that 3x multiplier, but you often come out with a decent win anyway – much like in Yggdrasil’s Lucha Maniacs slot game.
There is one more way to trigger free spins, and this comes through the treasure chest. It can only appear on reel 5. In the base game it will give one of the following:
During the free spins, the treasure chest will also appear but will have different prizes:
This treasure chest doesn’t come around that often, but often enough that it can make a real difference to your budget.
Absolutely! We do recommend checking out one of the other Viking-themed slots from Yggdrasil first, particularly if this is your first time in the world of fruit machines, or if you are new to gambling generally.
There is a lot to take in, and this is not a game which likes to pay out frequently. You also need to be willing to stick it out to build those rage points.
However, the free spins are incredibly lucrative, and we love the multi-level bonus games and those sticky sticky wilds.
This online and mobile game is an easy 4 out of 5 stars for us, especially as it’s one of the few 25 payline slot machines that has a low minimum bet of 0.10 a spin, so everyone can take a spin.
